About Sarah Mitchell

Hi, I'm Sarah Mitchell. I'm a mom of two (ages six and nine), a writer, and a former tech journalist. I created Digital Parenting Today as a space where research meets real life, helping parents navigate screen time, digital safety, and technology with confidence—and a lot less guilt.

After spending eight years covering consumer technology for publications like TechCrunch and The Verge, I thought I had a pretty good handle on the digital world. But when my oldest son Leo became completely obsessed with YouTube at age four, I quickly realized that reviewing gadgets is nothing compared to managing screen time. Our home turned into an ongoing negotiation zone, filled with daily arguments, device timers, and my own mounting parental guilt.

Determined to find a better way, I started digging into child development journals and digital wellness studies. I wanted to understand the psychological mechanisms behind these platforms and find practical, evidence-based solutions that didn't involve completely banning technology. What started as a personal quest to restore peace in our living room slowly evolved into this blog—a collaborative research space for fellow parents in the trenches.

I hold a B.A. in Journalism from Northwestern University, and my writing on digital wellness has been featured in Parents Magazine, the New York Times Parenting section, and Good Morning America. But my most important credentials are my two tech-savvy kids, who keep me honest, curious, and constantly on my toes. I believe that parenting in 2026 doesn't have to be a battle against screens; instead, we can help our kids build healthy, intentional habits that will serve them for a lifetime.

Our family's digital routine isn't perfect, and we still have days where things go off-course. But by shifting from rigid, mechanical timers to a thoughtful, content-first approach—using tools like whitelisting—we have found a sustainable rhythm that actually works. My goal is to share these insights, summarize the latest research, and test parental control tools honestly so you can make informed choices that fit your family's unique philosophy.
